Case Study: 3D Laser Scan Warehouse for Equipment Siting
Location: Fort Worth, Texas
Task: An existing warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas was being converted to a metal recycling facility. TruePoint 3D laser scanned the existing conditions so our client could conduct clash detection by incorporating the data into the design model and place new equipment without issue. TruePoint 3D reality captured the building perimeter, interior walls, windows, doors, columns, joists, and structural steel in the 470' x 160' x 20' space
Challenge: No accurate drawings of the warehouse existed. The equipment was tall, so it was important to capture data to avoid obstructions in the ceiling. Also, capturing the joists and structural steel spacing was important for siting the new equipment.
Solutions: Using a Leica survey-grade laser scanner, TruePoint captured the as-built conditions for the client to plan out the new equipment, ensuring proper fit, spacing and height requirements. TruePoint delivered point cloud data aligned to the design model.
Deliverable: TruePoint provided PTG files (unindexed point clouds), RCS files (indexed point clouds for Autodesk Recap), Intensity Map Point Cloud, and TruViews to the client. Our in-house CAD technicians were able to remove all major debris such as boxes, trash, and unused equipment from the point cloud.
Added Value: Delivering the point cloud data gives the client the ability to do clash detection for interferences. The exterior loading dock was 3D laser scanned to provide dimensions of the area where the equipment would be brought in.
